The unpredictability and challenges associated with the healthcare startup ecosystem can be daunting, but we are inspired on a daily basis by those working on solutions to better healthcare for all.
The BE Accelerator was started out to solve a problem. We wanted to help startups navigate the tricky healthcare landscape by closing the gap between ICT, healthcare and business. Our founders had experienced there own share of previous failure with healthcare investments, thus they set out to try remedy the situation.
The accelerator was launched in 2018 with backing from BE Capital and Daren Medical Group. In a short period we have already accelerated 26 startups across 3 batches and raised $50 Million USD. We believe our biggest achievement thus far, is the partnerships we have fostered with industry stakeholders including Stanford Byer Center For Biodesign, MassChallenge, Taipei Medical University and Show Chwan Healthcare System.
Based at the heart of the Taipei startup ecosystem, in the Taiwan Tech Arena, we are inspired and motivated by the innovators, entrepreneurs and startups that walk through the doors on a daily basis.
The healthcare ecosystem is particularly complex and it is probably fair to say it is unlike any other industry. Traditionally it has been an innovation averse industry, due to the associated risks of failure. There are numerous factors that are endemic to the industry such as institutional policies, hierarchical systems, long sales cycles and high costs to mention a few.
Despite these obvious industry hurdles, we are bullish about the opportunities that innovation will provide all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. The BE team works tirelessly to better understand the landscape and all the stakeholders so that we can improve the success rate of both local and international startups looking to start out, or scale up in various Asian territories.
We’re on a mission to establish the BE Accelerator and Taiwan as the gateway to Asia for healthtech and medtech. We believe that Taiwan is the ideal launchpad for both local and international startups into the Asian market and beyond.
This mission is only achievable with the collaboration and cooperation of many stakeholders. That is why we are constantly engaging with those who understand our mission and are eager to walk the journey with us.
Traditionally, Taiwan would not have been on your list of potential startup hubs, but this is certainly no longer the case. Backed by a supportive government, increase in venture capital and startup friendly regulations, Taiwan is gaining local and international acclaim.
